G. Alan Hartley is a 1977 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama. He began his career with the Birmingham Office of Deloitte & Touche, and joined Morrison & Smith, LLP in 1979. Alan brings a wealth of experience to the accounting, auditing and tax needs of the firm's diverse clients. From the needs of small business clients to the needs of larger, more diversified clients, the breath of Alan's experience is a valuable asset of our firm that provides significant value to the services our firm provides. He is a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Alan is also active in the local community through his church, board of director involvement for various nonprofit organizations and involvement with other civic organizations.
Barrett A. Burns began his career in 1985 with the Birmingham Office of Ernst & Young where he practiced for seven years both in the audit and tax departments. He has over 33 years’ experience in all facets of tax, accounting and auditing covering a wide range of industries. Barry is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama and excels in client service. He is a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was awarded a Certificate of Educational Achievement by the AICPA in the area of Tax Planning and Advising for Closely-Held Businesses. He is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church and has been active and held leadership roles in numerous professional, civic and not-for-profit organizations.
R. Daniel Sutter began his career in 1991 with Morrison & Smith, LLP. Dan is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Alabama, and has served a variety of clients during his career. Dan has experience in providing various assurance, accounting, tax, and business consulting services in the following industries: governmental and nonprofit, real estate and construction industries, and physician practices. He also provides income and estate planning services to business owners and individuals. Dan services a wide range of clients for our firm and his experience is a valuable asset to our firm. Dan also has a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential through the AICPA. He is a past President of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Society of CPA's and has previously served on the Governmental Accounting and Auditing Forum Committee sponsored by the ASCPA. Dan is also service on the advisory financial council for his Parish, St. Francis of Assisi. He is a member of the Tuscaloosa Morning Rotary Club and is currently serving as the President of the Tuscaloosa Morning Rotary Club.
Alanna N. Koon graduated cum laude in May 1998 from the University of Alabama with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She received her Master of Accountancy from the University of Alabama in December 1999. Alanna began her career with Morrison & Smith, LLP in January 2000 and became a licensed CPA in February 2001. She performs or assists in performing audits of non-profit organizations, retirement plans and small businesses along with numerous compilation engagements and also provides individual and business tax return preparation services.
